The Art Career of Michael Redhawk has been a journey of the heart. Born in the US into a military family, Michael spent part of his teenage years in Panama. Here he made his first piece of jewelry, which became the envy of his schoolmates. When he was not in the ocean swimming and diving for cannonballs, he could be found drawing sailing ships. Despite the lack of enthusiasm by his military parents, the encouragement of a loving grandmother kept him on the path to his dream. In the early 70’s Michael called upon his innate gift of design to become a self-taught jeweler in Virginia Beach, VA. He entered his jewelry in east coast competitions and won numerous top awards. He soon became an honored judge for the Eastern Federation of Gem and Mineral Societies. For thirty years Michael owned a jewelry store featuring his unique designs. Notable clients include Goldie Hawn and Chuck Norris. In the 90’s Michael directed his artistic energies towards the art forms of sculpture and painting. With the same diligence and commitment that helped launch his jewelry career, Michael sought out professional artists for tutoring, and soon his work was being featured at local galleries. As an avid sailor, and river rafter, Michael spent considerable time in his canoe on the rivers or on his boat exploring Lake Powell. His artwork features the beauty of waterways, as well as the back country of the southwest where he often paints plein-air. Michael was the Artist in Residence at the Cornerstone Gallery in Sedona, AZ. His work is now represented by Goldenstein Gallery & SAC, Sedona, AZ, and Nan Miller Gallery, Rochester, NY. Michael served as Juror for the Sedona Arts Festival in 2011. He also established a Fine Arts Program along with his wife, Marlys, at Rainbow Acres where they now are proud to serve as volunteer teachers.
