Artist's Profile

Following her lifelong passion for art, Marlys Mallet began her professional career as a teenager, creating murals for the Seattle Fifth Avenue Building and the Burien General Hospital in the state of Washington. After High School graduation, and some fun in Hawaii, she studied commercial art during the day and continued to develop her painting skills at night school.

Moving to New Orleans in the late 60's Mallet enrolled in the McCrady Art School where she learned the painting techniques of the Masters. Here she painted the revelry of Mardi Gras and the special charms of the Vieux Carre and the bayous. Moving up north to MIT, by Boston, now the proud mother of two little boys, Marlys painted fantasy worlds for her children, as well as the Charles River and the Boston skyline in all their many moods.

Three years later she was back in California, her birthplace, where she found an exhilarating climate for pure abstract expression. Her paintings became her diary, recording her mountain climbing and scuba diving adventures and her travels to Nepal, the South Pacific, the Orient, Europe and Mexico. The focus of Mallet's work was to create a personal vision, not to duplicate what she had seen, but to express the magical power of the place and her experience.
